Every extension of stay costs 1,900 THB, whether it is 30 days for tourism or a year on a retirement or marriage basis. In Bangkok you apply at the Immigration Bureau at the Government Complex in Chaeng Watthana, up to 45 days before your stay ends, with form TM.7, your passport, a photo and copies, and usually your TM30 receipt.
Types of extension
| Basis | Length | Main requirement |

Documents you usually need
- Form TM.7 (application for extension of stay)
- Passport and a copy of the photo page, your latest entry stamp and your visa
- One 4x6 cm photo, taken within the last 6 months
- TM30 receipt or proof of address, which many offices ask for
- For retirement or marriage: bank book and bank letter, income evidence or marriage documents, and photos of your home
The paper arrival card TM.6 was replaced by the TDAC in May 2025. What your office wants instead of the old TM.6 copy is not consistent across sources, so ask before you go.

The online e-Extension
The government's e-Extension service lets you start an extension online for twelve reasons, including tourism, and then visit an office for the identity check and the stamp. It is available at selected offices including Bangkok. The national immigration app THIM, launched in May 2026, does not yet handle extensions according to the sources we read. Check the official portal for current availability before relying on it.
After you are approved
- Re-entry permit: if you leave Thailand without one, an extension of stay is cancelled. See the re-entry permit guide.
- 90-day report: still due every 90 days. Use the 90-day report calculator.
- Costs: add up fees with the immigration fee calculator.
